Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky
With one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea
Circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate
Driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow

- Bob Dylan

What Is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a therapeutic approach that combines the carefully supervised use of ketamine with psychotherapy to support emotional healing and personal growth. Used at low, non-anesthetic doses, ketamine can create a temporary shift in awareness that helps many people feel less stuck in rigid patterns of thought, more open to new perspectives, and more able to engage with difficult emotions. Within this state, psychotherapy can be especially effective, allowing insights and emotional experiences to be explored with greater flexibility and compassion. KAP is a collaborative process that includes thoughtful preparation, medical oversight, and integration sessions to help translate the experience into meaningful, lasting change.

The Elements of KAP

  • The first step in the process. Click on the link above if you’re wondering if KAP might be right for you and if we’re potentially a good fit to work together. We’ll talk over the phone or virtual chat for 20-30 minutes to explore some of your history and how KAP could work for you. This is a no cost consultation.

  • After our initial consultation, your next step will be to schedule an assessment with a medical professional. They will evaluate your medical history and current health condition to determine if Ketamine could be right for you. If it is determined that you are medically eligible then the doctor may also prescribe the medicine at this appointment. I will be in frequent communication with the medical provider throughout the process to help ensure that our work is done safely. These evaluations are not typically covered by insurance. I can provide referrals for doctors with expertise in working specifically with KAP.

  • Once you’re medically cleared we will begin the process of preparation for the medicine sessions. In these sessions, I will provide more information and we will address specific questions and concerns you may have. We will make plans to address these concerns as they may arise during treatment. We will also discuss your specific goals for this work and develop a treatment plan that guides us towards your goals. You can expect 2-4 preparation sessions before your first medicine session depending on your specific needs.

The fee for these sessions is my standard psychotherapy fee of $175 per 55 minutes. I do not accept insurance but these prep sessions may be eligible for reimbursement from your out-of-network benefits, if included in your plan. If so, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance. I highly recommend verifying your benefits with your insurance prior to scheduling.

  • The medicine sessions will be scheduled for 3 hours in the comfort of my therapy space. This will give us time to ground our minds and bodies to promote a healing journey. You will then self-administer your prescribed medicine lozenges. The journey portion will be self-guided while wearing an eye mask and headphones, with a specially curated playlist. My role will be to hold the space and support you in your journey.

The fee for these sessions is my standard fee of $175 multiplied by 3 hours for a total of $525. These sessions are not typically covered by insurance including out-of-network coverage.

  • This could be the most important part of the process. We will meet within 1-5 days after your medicine session, while your mind still remains in a state of increased neuroplasticity. We will explore the importance of what you experienced in your medicine session and most importantly, we will develop plans to incorporate the knowledge you gained into your daily life to encourage lasting change.
